The Problem

The invention was born out of the challenges we face while recycling. I have identified two primary issues. Firstly, people don't seem to take recycling seriously as they don't see the immediate impact of tons of plastic littering the ground in their daily lives. Secondly, even when people want to recycle, they struggle to determine whether an item is recyclable or should be thrown in the trash. Consequently, they often end up discarding the item in the trash out of confusion. This carelessness leads to soil pollution caused by plastic chemicals and slows down recycling lines due to item resorting.

The Solution

To solve these problems, I created the Envo Recycling Systems. The hardware, software, and process enable users to scan an item and determine whether it is recyclable, compostable, or should be trashed. I have been given the opportunity to work on this project at school for an Extended Learning opportunity credit (ELO).
